STATUS OF THE MAJOR COMPONENTS OF THE SARDAR SAROVAR PROJECT AT PRESENT IS AS UNDER

MAIN DAM

a)
On 8th March 2006, NCA has permitted to raise the dam height of spillway of Sardar Sarovar Dam to EL 121.92 M. The work of raising has been taken up.
b)
93.53% [ 63.79 LCM] of total quantity of 68.20 LCM to be placed in the dam at final height is completed.
c)
Construction of Irrigation Bye Pass Tunnel [IBPT] is almost completed and water is flowing through.
d)
Preconstruction activities of Garudeshwar weir are taken up.
  a) CANAL HEAD POWER HOUSE [CHPH]
Canal Head Power House is completed in all respect and is commissioned on 15/12/2004. Each Unit is able of generating about 18 MW of power.
b)
RIVER BED POWER HOUSE [RBPH]
There are total 6 units of TG in RBPH, each of 200 MW install capacity. Five units are commissioned.
At the end of March, 2006, total 2215.00 MUs are generated from both power house
MAIN CANAL
a)
Work of Narmada Main Canal (NMC) from ch. 0 to 263 km is completed and water is released through this reach, which has enabled to take Narmada Water up to Kadi and beyond up to Malia and Vallabhipur through Saurashra Branch Canal.
b)
Work of NMC from ch. 263 to 357 km is completed. (Except Canal Syphon on River Saraswati at NMC ch. 348.60 m.)
c)
Work of NMC from ch. 357 to 458 km is in progress.
It is planned to complete the work of NMC during the year 2007.
BRANCH CANALS
Branch canals offtaking from NMC Ch 0 to 144 km
a)
Work of all the 15 Brach Canals off taking through this reach is completed.
Branch canals offtaking from NMC Ch 144 to 263 km
a)
Work of all the 7 branche canals in this reach is completed.
Saurashtra Branch Canal [SBC] and its Sub Branches
a)
Work of 70 km of SBC is completed with lining.
b)
Works are in progress in the remaining reach. It is planned to be completed during 2006-07.
c)
Out of 7, 3 sub branches namely; Narsingpura, Malia and Vallabhipur are almost completed. 3 sub branches namely; Dhrangadhra, Limbadi and Botad are in progress.
The work of sub branch canal are to be completed in phase manner by 2007-08.
d)
Work on all the five Pumping Stations on the SBC is in progress. It is planned to complete the first pumping station during the current financial year 2006-07. Two VT pumps of the first pumping station are commenced since January, 2006.
Branch Canals of NMC reach between ch 263 to 458 km
There are 14 branch Canals offtaking through NMC between ch 263 to 458 km. Status of work is as under:
a)
Viramgam-1 branch- civil work is completed and erection of gates is under progress. Work will be completed by 2005-06.
b)
Viramgam-II, Kharaghoda and Zinzuwada.
c)
Goraiya, Bolera, Rajpura, Amarapura and Radhanpur are under progress and will be completed by 2006-07.
Kuchchha Branch Canal [KBC]
KBC offtakes at ch. 385 km of NMC. Work of 75 km length is under progress and planned to be completed by 2007-08. Works of Vejpur, Madka, Malsanand, Dhima and Gadhshisha are planned to be taken up in phase manner in 2005-06 and completed by 2006-07.
DISTRIBUTION SYSTEM
Work of distribution system is in full swing upto initial 263 km of NMC. This work is planned to be completed by 2006-07. Remaining work of distribution system i. e. beyond ch. 263 km of NMC is planned to be taken up in phase manner in 2005-06 and completed by 2007-08.
Thus entire canal network will be completed by 2007-08.
CAD WORKS
Works of Command Area Development under phase-I and II are in full swing. These works includes works of constructing micro canal network comprising of Minors and Sub-Minors and Field Channels. Also, other allied works of educating farmers for Participatory Irrigatiom Management [PIM], Formation of Water Users Associations [WUAs], Training and Workshops, Agri-Melas etc; have been under taken on massive scale. On this front, under phase-I, construction work of 3,51,000 Ha is in progress, whereas in phase -II, work of 1,17,000 Ha is in progress. Total 1533 WUAs are formed, 1455 have been registered with total membership of 112018 farmers. Total 6522 Gramsabhas and 545 meetings of Spearhead Groups have been organized with extensive interaction, Training, Work shops.
Out of total 90 no. of VSA completed, 48 VSAs are handed over to the respective WUAs for participatory Irrigation Management.
In this year, irrigation water has been provided to 57002 Ha..
